California Business Sales This Year Are Just Short of 9,000
A total of 8,999 small California businesses were sold in 2009, as of July 19, with a slowdown, in the most recently completed week. September Records Fewest Small Business Sales
September was the slowest month of the year for small business sales in California, with only 1,187 companies changing hands--a decline of 39% compared to the 1,960 completed deals recorded in September, 2007.

Fewer Small California Businesses Changed Hands In August
Olympics and pre-election activities by political parties in August were distractions for some principals leading to slower sales of small business in California during the month. Many of the state's counties recorded declines in closed escrows compared with the prior months, but exceptions were noted. A rundown of sales by county follows.

Small California Business Sales Up 8.7% in July
BizBen reports an increase of 8.7% in sale of small California businesses in July compared to prior month. Siegel calls it “sign of underlying strength of demand” for small California
businesses.

119 Small Businesses Sold In California: Stats 6/30 - 7/6
119 California Small Businesses For Sale, Franchises, & Business Opportunities Were Sold Between June 30, 2008 and July 6, 2008. Sales were slower the last two weeks due to the 4th of July weekend and staggered summer vacations. Los Angeles County businesses for sale again led with leading numbers totaling 38 sold for the week. San Diego County businesses sales were second with 15 closings.

Self-Employed & Small Businesses Reach New High
2005 had the highest number of self employed and small businesses. The report issued by
The U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy cited 29 million small businesses of which 19.8 million were small businesses without employees.
