Advertising a business for sale on the Internet is different than other forms of advertising. When you are selling your small business through a newspaper you have limited space. A newspaper ad is an introduction, not the listing itself. You expect the buyer to call you for more details.

However, when you are selling a small business on the Internet, space is not an issue. In fact, business buyers online want as much relevent information as possible. Your listing is not an introduction but a summary. Buyers who use the internet are very savvy. They prefer to do their own research before they call you.

The first impression you make is very important. Buyers know how long the business was for sale or if it was listed previously. Your ad is a reflection of you and the business you represent.

Here are some tips to help you create effective advertising of your small business for sale on BizBen:
  • More information is better.
    Put a lot of information to help potential buyers know about the business listing before they call. This helps pre-qualify your buyers. Not only will you get less calls but they will be higher quality leads.

  • Avoid using abbreviations in your ads.
    This confuses buyers. They assume you're not putting details in because you don't have them. Build trust with potential buyers by providing a clear description of the business for sale.
If you follow these guidelines you'll be on your way to selling your small business. You'll get less but higher quality questions. That frees your time to focus on the most qualified and motivated buyers.
