Todays Small Business Acquisition Tip: Money Is Not The Main Motivator - When buying a small business income is not usually the top consideration. Many are willing to take risk and add their personal touch to a business. Perhaps they want to get out of a job and stop working for someone else. Whatever the reason, income is important, but it's got to be more than that. Espcecially at first, businesses probably take a lot more work and money than expected.

Comments:

I don't entirely agree that money is not the main motivator when buying a small business. It seems to me that there are several considerations for a potential buyer when they are looking for a business to purchase that include: Money (Income), Industry, Ease of Operation, and finally Working Capital Requirements. I would say that Income for the buyer ranks first among these considerations since this is so critical to the valuation of the business.

Business Buying Tip: In my experience, which encompasses over 35 years in business, finding the right business opportunity to purchase is easier than closing this transaction. It seems that most of the time problems occur between the parties after a deal is signed but before the transaction closes escrow and money changes hands due to too much time passing from the start of the process that allows the seller to reconsider his price, terms etc., so I would advise a serious buyer to try to move a quickly as possible and to get the seller and or their representatives to do the same.
