A very enlightening overview of the marketplace for small and medium-sized businesses for sale--the chief industries and comparisons among them--was provided to listeners of BizBen Talk Radio Program on Saturday, March 13th.
Peter Williamson of Action COACH, shared his insights, gained over many years as a successful entrepreneur, helping buyers to understand the kinds of opportunities available and to focus their searches on the most appropriate businesses.
Discussing the three main industries: manufacturing, retail and service, Williamson pointed out that investment required is greatest for manufacturing and least demanding for service businesses. He also said manufacturing businesses are typically the most complex, compared to companies in the other two industries. Some of his comments about retail enterprises centered on the evolution from brick-and-mortar to the online model for selling products and promoting good customer experiences.
The most critical aspect of service businesses according to Williamson is the “high level of customer intimacy.” He noted that strong customer loyalty is a benefit in this type of business, provided the relationship is well managed.
“What you are passionate about” is the most important criteria when choosing a business, Williamson told the BizBen BlogTalk Radio audience. “That passion is what carries you through the rough spots that come with every business.
