As the end of my military service came about, I opted to pursue my college education. I graduated with honors, Cum Laude, from the University of Southern California (USC) with a degree in Occupational Therapy.
I obtained my license and my registration as an Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) and the majority of my professional career has been in the field of geriatrics, specifically in working with my patients in their homes. My duties as an OTR/L have included working with clients on modifying their homes due to expected changes that come about from our normal aging. While working as an OTR/L, I decided on going back to school to work on my graduate degree in the field of business.
I obtained my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in Carson, California. I was able to merge my skill set as an Occupational Therapist with the knowledge given to me via my MBA and I was able to successfully open three health care businesses in the Los Angeles area. One company was a skilled Home Health Agency where we offered nursing and therapy care in the home. The second company focused on staffing therapy and social work professionals in the home and the latter company was an outpatient therapy clinic that served the geriatric population.
I also had the opportunity of working with an orphanage as an Occupational Therapist in Ghana, Africa where I was part of a Cap Stone Program for USC, supervising student therapists and working with patients in Africa. What a life changing experience! And, I was an active member of the Glendale Masonic Lodge #368 where I eventually became the Lodge Master, overseeing over 800 members, their widows and orphans. This latter position allowed to me learn how to work within the parameters of a corporate like group that has a large philanthropic role in our world.
